A major paper mill in South America needed a belt drive solution for a new large vacuum pump installed at their facility. During the paper making process, vacuum systems are used to remove water and moisture from pulp as it moves along conveyors. The new pump operates 24/7/365 at around 240 RPM and is driven by a motor that generates 400 HP @ 1190 RPM.

Evaluating the trade-offs between solutions can be an important part of product selection. Product features that appear minor may significantly impact unit performance, life and cost. Further, product features may also impact the performance of related drive train components in either positive or negative ways. When evaluating application solutions it is best to consider the whole picture to determine which solution will meet the majority of needs in the application.

A private college needed to replace an inefficient adjustable speed drive, which incorporated three classical v-belts, on an HVAC exhaust fan in their natural sciences building. As one of the initiatives within their Resource and Environmental Management Program, the college is constantly looking for ways to improve energy efficiencies and reduce costs.
